The question of what to do with my life, asked by a job seeker is birthed through different factors. Some of which are:
• Parental pressure
An average Nigerian parent expects returns from their children immediately after graduation because they feel that is the best time to begin to eat the fruit of their labor. Moreover, parental pressure moves a job seeker to his or her breaking point. Some Nigerian parents feel mounting pressure is the best way to push their children, which is entirely wrong.
This is very harmful to the psyche of a job seeker. The effect of comparison is you belittling yourself because of the success of your colleagues. It causes more harm than good in your job search endeavor.
• Negative mindset
This depicts having a poor picture in your mind about yourself and what you can achieve, which programs you to settle for less or nothing at all. Your mindset is the factory of your thoughts, attitudes, and ideas which reflects on you and your job search endeavor.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines mediocrity as the quality of being average or not very good. This boils down to your skills and abilities. You can judge this yourself because as a job seeker; you should know where you stand and what you have to offer in order to get your dream job.
